Winds and a major cold front slowed fishing this past week

Winds and a major cold front slowed fishing this past week, but a nice forecast for the weekend should turn things around. Prior to this cold front anglers were reporting excellent fishing in most all areas of the lake.

Anglers have been finding fish cranking the windswept shorelines and edges of weedbeds, trolling bottom bouncers or cranks along sunken roads and points, slip bobbering in the trees, and jigging deeper rocky points. Some of the better cranking areas have been Pelican Lake, the smaller bays in the Flats, Doc Hagens, New Mill Bay, Knudson’s Bay, the north end of Creel Bay, the Storm Sewer area, Haybale Bay, and Browns Bay with shad raps, wally divers, and hornets.

Slip bobber fisherman have been doing well in Pelican Lake, the Mauvee area, Florida near Grahams Island, Swanson’s Point, and Foughty’s Point.

Live bait fisherman have been working the sunken roads in Pelican, the Flats, and Six Mile and sunken points and rock piles such as Haley’s Hump, Patience Point, Doc Hagens, Bird Island, and the Ft. Totten/Cactus area. Pike fishing’s been a bit slower, but most anglers are reporting some fish mixed in with walleyes. White bass continue to be caught in most all areas of the lake. Their population has skyrocketed and now’s a great time to take advantage of their abundance. Jigs or plain hooks tipped with minnows or cranks in firetiger, blue/silver, or perch all work great.

Shore fisherman continue to report an excellent evening bite at most all the bridges, the rip rap near Acorn Ridge, off Hwy 19 on the north end of Creel Bay, and the Hwy 281/19 area. Leeches on lindy rigs or slip bobbers have been working the best. Saturday the Lake Region Anglers Association will be having their annual Adult/Child fishing tournament at Grahams Island starting at 9:00am. This is sponsored in part by West Bay Resort.
