Tough week for inconsistent weather patterns…

Fishing has been a little tougher for us this past week.  Why?  A number of reasons and it is probably the combination of all of them.  It was a tough week for inconsistent weather patterns, we have had some thunderstorms blow through the area with lightening, thunder, high winds, followed by some pretty major cold fronts.  The water in a lot of spots is way too clear.  The water temperature is still a little on the cool side in the mid 60’s and we have not had much for an algae bloom yet.  The last reason which is probably the biggest one is the lake is up two and a half feet!  This gives these fish another 30 to 40 thousand acres to hide in.  The fish are definitely scattered and we have to work a little harder than normal for them.  But overall the quality of the fish is excellent and we are still able to catch limits on most days despite all things that have gone on here in this past week.

We are still fishing most of the back bays paying most attention to wind swept shorelines.  We are still having success pitching crank baits and plastics and slip bobbering as well.  Some of our guides have had some success trolling crank baits as well.  So a little bit of everything going on as far as our methods and presentations and it is more important than ever to be mobile and cover lots of shorelines.  The weeds are growing every day too and some of the walleyes are starting to show signs of getting into their summer patterns so the bottom bouncing season probably is right around the corner.

With the month of June coming to end, we want to remind everyone that Mitchell’s Guide Service has plenty of available room in the first two weeks of July.  July is one of our prime months of fishing on Devils Lake and usually the weather is much more stable than in May and June.  So, give us a call and plan your trip today with Mitchell’s Guide Service…We would love to have you!

Have a Great week and we hope to see you on the water.
