Mondays at the Museum

Next Monday Evening, May 14th 2012  the Lake Region Heritage Center (Old Post Office Museum) will be holding another presentation in the ongoing series “Mondays at the Museum”. This event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Old Post Office Museum, located at 502 4th St NE in Devils Lake. The guest speaker that evening will be Mr. John D. Chaske Sr. known also by his Sioux name Wanbdi Nonpa which means Two Eagle. Mr. Chaske is a member of the Spirit Lake Tribe and has held many positions at the Four Winds Community School and has been involved in Dakota Sioux Ceremonials for over 25 years. Monday evening he will be holding a presentation on Native Sioux spiritual beliefs and practices. His presentation will involve his own personal experiences as well as introductions to the traditional spiritual practices of the Dakota Sioux and the use of the medicine wheel, sage grass, and sweet grass. The presentation will also include a brief description of the seven rites and virtues of the Sioux people. This will be followed by an open discussion on the similarities and comparisons to Christianity. All Monday at the Museum events are free and open to the public.
