It’s a bad time to be a walleye!

It is a bad time to be a walleye and a good time to be a walleye fisherman on Devils Lake. The walleyes are on the bite and all presentations seem to be working. Our best luck has been working weed lines in that 8-14 ft of water. There are still some shorelines where pitching cranks will produce; however, weeds are starting to really grow and you need to know where the pockets exist on each shoreline where you can pitch effectively. Live bait rigs such as bouncers and spinners have been good. We have been doing a lot of vertical jigging and pitching jigs along weeds, rock piles, and drop-offs. Overall, fish whatever way is most comfortable for you.

White bass are a bit deeper as well. Once you find them, be prepared to do a lot of catching. They seem to be a bit more scattered of late, but we have also been spending more time catching eyes and not going after the bass. Northerns are being caught every now and then with the walleyes. The weather has been nice and the fish are biting. It is common to catch many walleyes between 14-18 inches with some nicer 19-25 inchers mixed in as well. Get out here and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year!!
