Good news… fish are still biting on Devils Lake!

Where is summer going? Seems like time is flying by too fast these days. Good news is that fish are still biting. We have had some very warm weather this past week, but the fish don’t seem to mind. Some days we really get them and others we have to work a bit. There really is no rhyme or reason for the days that they smack and the days that we have to work a bit. Sames presentations have been producing. Jigs tipped with a leech or a third of a crawler. Bouncers and spinners with crawlers or slip-bobbers have all worked. Best depths have been 10-18 feet. Weeds seem to be the key for us. Flooded rock piles or roads have also been good. We are seeing lots of up and comers for walleyes (those 8-12 inch fish), which is great to see!! We are also catch a lot of those 14-18 inch fish with the occasional walleye over 20 inches. White bass are biting, but you need to find them as they are on the move of late. Look for the bubbling on calm days and work shorelines with jigs and plastics. Pike are a bit hit and miss. We are mostly catching them while we are walleye fishing. With school starting or very near for many, this is a great time for a family trip out to Devils Lake! Good Luck fishing and enjoy the rest of summer!!
