The walleye fishing has been incredible for both numbers and size
Happy New Year! Things have really picked up here in the last week. The walleye fishing has been incredible for both numbers and size. Nearly every group we have taken so far has limited out on walleyes. We have been fishing lots of structure mostly humps and sunken islands but we have had some success on some larger walleyes in the shallows in 8 to 10 feet of water. Our best luck so far has been on Northland Buckshot Rattle spoon and the Rapala jigging shad raps tipped with minnow heads.
We haven’t fish perch that much yet but are hearing lots of reports of schools of perch being found in a number of places. Only problem has been they have been very tough to get to bite so far especially with all the weather changes we have experienced this past week.
The northern pike fishing has been very good as well. We have not done much tip up fishing yet bet plan to in the next coming days. We have heard some pretty good stories from the folks in Woodland’s spear houses. They have seen lots of pike and some bruisers as well.
We did luck out on that last storm we had over Christmas. We did get about 1 foot of snow but the wind really blew it around when it came so it is not like it has a blanket of 1 foot of snow everywhere. We are driving our trucks pretty much everywhere on Devils Lake and we are finding a consistent 12 to 15 inches every where we have been so far.
I will be posting some photos shortly but am waiting to receive some from clients we guided this past weekend.
Good Luck Fishing and be safe!
