Past week has produced some absolutely incredible fishing!
The shallow water bite is on!!! This past week has produced some absolutely incredible fishing despite a major cold front. Things have been a little on the slow side in the mornings so we have been picking up our guests a little later in the morning and fishing later in the day when the temperatures warmed up. We have been limiting out on both walleyes and northern pike. The walleyes are running anywhere from 15 to 23 inches and the northerns have been the good eater size of 4 to 6 pounds and there have been a few up to 10 pounds caught as well.
It is all about the warmer water. Most of the main lake is around 48 to 50 degrees but in the back bays the water is considerably warmer with some places reaching up to 58 degrees. We have been pitching mimmic minnows and jigs with trigger X. Both of these have been red hot as of late. We have also been doing quite a bit of slip bobbering along cattails and shorelines. One tip we can give you is cast the shorelines until you either catch some fish or start seeing some follows. Then throw out the anchor and break out the slip bobber rods with leaches and get ready!!!
Mitchell’s Guide Service is in full swing right now and it feels good! We have one incredible line up of fishing guides again this year and it is nice to see everyone back in full swing. The rising waters of Devils Lake has again changed things around here and it is so nice to have such an experienced guide staff to help figure it all out.
Now is the perfect time to plan your summer vacation and although our schedule is filling fast we still have plenty of prime dates available. Remember the only bad time to fish Devils Lake is the time that you’re not here! It is going to be an awesome summer!
Good Luck Fishing Everybody!
