Friends of Sullys Hill Membership!

The Friends of Sullys Hill held their yearly strategic planning sessions in February. The group will focus this year on providing visitors within our community and beyond with more information about what is happening at Sullys Hill. The Friends of Sullys Hill membership is free of charge and includes a regular email newsletter. Within the last month, the Friends of Sullys Hill have signed up members that span the nation; from Oregon to New York City!

The Friends of Sullys Hill will form committees to allow interested members to play a more active role in helping to guide and shape the organization. These include marketing, outreach and event planning. Suzie Kenner, the president of the Friends group stated, “opening up our membership will draw in a wide variety of members, help them to become active with access to our newsletter, invitations to members-only events and programs at Sullys Hill. Our hope as a group is to engage our community and beyond to take advantage of what this great piece of land has to offer and find joy in nature.”

The strategic planning session also focused on creating short and long-term goals for the organization and Sullys Hill.  In the brainstorming session, ideas included everything from increasing visitor information, improving the nature trail, and installing cameras to allow viewers to observe animals in real time from their computer, to doing a huge project that will give visitors the ‘WOW’ experience.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife recently completed construction on an amphitheater and will host a variety of events throughout the summer at Sullys Hill. Kenner added, “the addition of the amphitheater will improve the visitor experience to make Sullys Hill fun and exciting for the whole family. Entertainment and educational opportunities are just a small part of what goes on at Sullys Hill. On days or evenings when the amphitheater isn’t being used, families can still come out and enjoy the nature trails, the visitor center, the bird garden, prairie dog town and so much more.”

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends of Sullys Hill to get information on events or want to participate in one of the committees being formed, please contact sullyshill@gmail.com or 701-766-4272 with your full name, telephone number and email address.

Be sure to come out on Saturday, March 10 from noon to 4:00 PM for the next ‘Videos at the Visitor Center’ event. Dirt! The Movie will be shown at 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM. This 80 minute, award-winning film highlights the importance of soil in our daily lives. The Friends will provide free popcorn and lemonade throughout the afternoon. Crafts will be available for the younger audience.
