Good Ice and Good Fishin’
Things are looking good for the next few weeks here in Devils Lake. We had some warm days that really helped melt our snow on the lake and has made access a lot easier. The temps have adjusted back now and have frozen the melted snow. Our access points are still holding up and we a currently sitting with a good 24 inches of ice still. There is still time to get your ice fishing fix in for the winter.
The perch fishing has been picking up in the last few weeks. It seems that the stable weather has created a little bit better of a bite. Look to find the perch out in the deeper basins in that 20-45ft of water. Lately gold and pink color jigs have been working the best. Try using small jigs for the perch 1/16th oz jigs have been an ideal size. If you notice these fish are a little shy with your rattling jig, switch out to something more subtle that doesn’t have a rattle in it. North Dakota allows you to use up to 4 poles while ice fishing, so make sure to utilize this and give yourself a dead stick/bobber hole right next to your jigging hole. Sometimes these perch will come into your rattle jig and finish with your deadstick/bobber. The walleye fishing has still been good in the early morning and evening times. Try pinpointing structured spots or pinch points in the contour lines to find these fish.
