Cover Water!

Posted: July 27, 2015

Cover water…we have caught fish in 10-30 feet of water. Seems like it really can change from day to day. We are trolling cranks and or bottom bouncers with spinners. Plastics, crawlers, leeches, and minnows are all working. Cranks have also done well trolled between 2-3 mph.

We have caught some monster pike of late, jumbo perch, and white bass. It’s fun when you catch the variety pack out there.

Summer is starting to slide so make sure to get out and enjoy the excellent fishing that the Devils Lake basin is providing!!

Spinners are the Name of the Game!

Posted: July 15, 2015

The bite on Devils Lake has been good. It is the time of the year when the water temps are starting to rise and the spinner bite is starting to take off.

Try using an ounce and half bottom bouncer with a #3 or #4 spinner blade attached to the bottom bouncer. Right now the bait of the choice has been Berkley Gulp! in the minnow or minnow grub styles. Colors have been dependent on the fish, grab a bag of green, white, or orange and throw one color on see what the walleyes are wanting. Don’t be afraid to try worms if the bite is a bit tougher after a front has come through.  Pulling crankbaits has also been productive in putting walleyes in the boat.  Don’t be afraid to mix it up and try different styles of fishing, Devils Lake can be a lot of fun this time of year!

As far location and depths go, try in the 10-16ft range. Some areas that have been producing are Six Mile Bay, Doc Hagens, New Mill, Howards, and areas in Pelican. Try pulling along the weed edges or the structure of sunken roads.

Good luck to everyone out fishing and remember if you are not on fish, keep moving until you find an active school!

It’s All About the Pocket!

Posted: July 9, 2015

The old saying “90 percent of the fish are in 10 percent of the water” is certainly holding true right now on Devils Lake.

Pockets can change from day to day so it’s important to cover water.

Without a doubt pulling spinners has been our best method to put fish in the box. Best depths are 7-15 ft of water. Crawlers, leeches, and plastics on spinners are all producing.

Pike fishing is more spotty with the warmer water temps, but most pike are caught mixed in with the walleyes.

Bass have been in shallow along rock shorelines.

Good luck to all! Walleye fishing should continue to stay great and look for fish to keep sliding deeper as summer continues!

July 6th Report!

Posted: July 6, 2015

This last couple weeks have been very busy catching tons of fish on all presentations and all depths. Pulling spinners has been a go to way to catch walleyes in the 14-18″ range. Finding weedlines, old roads. old shorelines have been the target areas for pulling spinners with crawlers or leeches. Jigging and bobbers has been good for the12-15″ fish. Lots of action for groups of people wanting to catch alot of fish and a few keepers to take home. Finding rock piles and wind blown shorelines sure has yielded alot of fish using leeches and crawlers.

If you want to go for a few larger fish I would suggest pulling cranks along shorelines and old roads has sure has yielded some 20+ inchers. Salmo’s and shad raps in hot steel or Halsinki shad colors have worked for me. My July is pretty booked with 4 open days, August has open dates and so does September. Give us a call for a awesome trip and tons of action and excitement catching and releasing fish all day long!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 2nd Report!

Posted: July 2, 2015

The weather has been heating up and fishing continues to be hot. Big fish, small fish, all kinds of fish; now is the time to be fishing on Devils Lake. People are finding a lot of success trolling both spinners with live bait, as well as pulling #5 crank baits in around 10 feet of water but don’t be afraid to go deeper. Working the edges of weed beds and tree lines, as well as trolling on flooded roads has been producing fantastic results. Slip bobbering with live bait in the evenings has also been producing nice results. Here are a few of the catches from the past couple weeks

Good luck, be safe, and have a happy 4th of July!
