Beautiful weather, fish are cooperating!

Posted: April 30, 2015

After a long winter it is so special to get out on the open water! Water is warming quickly and we are currently experiencing some walleye action in or near the current. Vertical jigging with a minnow or a jigging rap has produced some dandy eyes! There are some females in the current spawning and some have already spawned. There are more and more males showing up in the current areas the past few days.

Look for the back bays to continue to warm and for post spawn Walleyes to be arriving very soon!

Pike are already there (in shallow). Pitching cranks/ jig plastic combos is a great way to cover water and find the active pockets!

As the spawn occurs/completes, please remember to practice “catch and release” on the nicer fish!

Good luck to all!

Open Water Time!

Devils Lake is ice free! The lake is open and ready for fishing via boat.

As far as the bite goes….concentrate on current areas (either in or near) as the spawn is going on and will be for a few weeks. Once the spawn is complete look for shallow warm back water bays!!

We will keep you posted with the most accurate/current bite on Devils Lake each and every week!

Good luck and enjoy the open water!!

Ice is Coming Off and Dock are Going in!

Posted: April 17, 2015

Creel Bay is officially ice free and the loading dock is in! Other parts of the lake that are ice free include Six Mile Bay, the majority of the Minnewaukan Flats, and Pelican Lake. There is still a couple ice sheets in the Main Bay and East Bay blowing around, but with the nice weather it should deteriorate quickly.

There has been a few people shore fishing with decent luck around bridges, but overall only a couple reports have came in. With little precipitation this winter the lake is a couple feet lower than last year, with little water flowing into Devils Lake. Good luck and be careful to anyone venturing our in the near future.

April 16th

Hello fellow anglers. Greetings again from Devils Lake!!!!!! I am happy to announce the ice is going fast and about 75% is open. Areas like 6 mile bay, mauve coulee, Pelican lake, Lake Irvin and Dry Lake are ice free!!!!! Time to be thinking about booking that trip with us. My first trip is May 18th. The phone has started to ring and this year should be just as good as last. The lake level has dropped 2-3 ft from last fall and will continue to drop unless we get some well needed rain.

The spawn for the walleye and pike should start once the water temps reach 47-52 degrees. Once that happens and they spawn out they will be in the shallow water 1-5ft where it is warm for a bit. The best way to go after post spawn walleyes is pitching shallow cranks, mimic minnows or jigs with live bait or plastics. I may try to get out in the next few days to give the boat a spin and check the lake for newly created obsticals to stay away from. If you get a chance to go fishing while the fish are spawning, please catch, photo and release. This will help preserve the fishery and allow our future anglers to enjoy it too!!!

Till Next Time…. Tight Lines John
