Bridges and Coolies have open water in Devils Lake!

Posted: April 25, 2011

Hello everyone, time to start writing some reports because there actually is something to write about. The bad news first, there is STILL ice on the lake which isn’t cool but what can you do. The good news is the bridges and coolies have open water and are producing fish. Find moving water, you will find fish. Mauvis Bridge jigging in a little duck boat with minnows and a jig is producing; channel A is producing as well, walleyes and pike. Shore fishing, the coolies around Churches Ferry and north to Cando have been doing very well. Jigs and twister tails with the occasional minnow have been working the best. Nice weather ahead so hopefully the ice goes quick. The bait shop is TOTALLY FULL AND STOCKED with quality tackle. Come and check it out. Good luck and good fishing.

Last fall new regulations went into effect in an effort to curb the spread of aquatic nuisance species, or ANS.

But the full effects of the regulations likely won’t be noticed by most until this spring and summer. The bottom line is many who enjoy the waters of North Dakota will have to change their habits. Read the full story from the Bismarck Tribune

Lynn Schlueter is the ANS coordinator for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department.

Based in the Devils Lake district, it’s Schlueter’s job to get the word out to anglers, boaters and anyone else using the lakes and rivers of the state.
